This model is normally used in bathroom locations. Built in humidity (condensation) sensor automatically switches fan on when condensation is detected, then off after a pre-set time. Additionally the fan can be connected to run in conjunction with the room light switch, so that when the room light is switched on the fan starts, then after a pre-set time the fan switches off.
