A popular, easy to grow shrub which thrives in the English climate. Viburnum opulus 'Roseum' is a bushy, deciduous shrub with pretty lobed-shaped leaves which turn shades of purple and red by the autumn. The frothy, white flower heads have caused the shrub to become known as the 'Snowball Tree' and those blooms make excellent cut flowers for vases indoors too. The flower heads open during May and June with a green tinge, becoming pure white over a few weeks and maturing to have a pink hue. Grow in any moist, but well drained garden soil in full sun or partial shade, plants will tolerate exposed and coastal areas quite successfully too. Requires minimal pruning, you should only trim plants to fit the available space, or to remove any dead or damaged growth during the spring. Plants will also tolerate a harder, regenerate prune if they become poor shaped after a few years. Caution: Harmful if eaten.
