Add sunshine yellow shades to your garden with Marigold 'Lemon Gem'! Growing well even in an adverse summer, the mounded plants become smothered in blooms from the end of June onwards. This is an extremely neat variety of this popular half-hardy annual, which is perfect as path or lawn edging. Enjoy the single yellow blooms from early summer to the first frosts. Culinary note: The citrus tasting flowers have many uses, try them in salads, sandwiches or seafood dishes too.Sow in spring at 21-24C (70-75F) in a good seed compost. Just cover the seed with compost and keep the soil damp but not wet. Germination usually takes 5-14 days. They can also be sown out of doors 6mm (0.25in) deep in well raked soil in late spring. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost 23-30cm (9-12in) apart in a sunny spot.Caution: foliage may aggravate skin allergies.
