Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’, commonly known as Firethorn, is a tough, resilient and easy-to-grow shrub which will thrive in virtually any garden. Grown mainly for its bright display of fiery orange berries which provide wonderful autumn colour to the garden, although this evergreen hardy shrub brings colour and structure to the garden all year-round with its glossy green leaves and then the extra addition of bee-friendly white flower clusters in spring. Pyracantha is a thorny shrub and virtually impenetrable, making it effective for use as a security hedge, although it also works really well as a wall trained shrub against the house or as a free-standing tall shrub in any area of the garden. Left unpruned, this variety can reach a height of up to 3m, but it responds extremely well to a hard prune in autumn or spring so can easily be kept much smaller if necessary.Grow Pyracantha plants as free standing shrubs or trained against a walls and fences. Plant Pyracantha in any well drained, reliably moist soil in sun or semi shade. Choose a position with shelter from cold, drying winds.Feed and water Pyracantha plants regularly until full established. Prune free standing shrubs in early spring, removing damaged and poorly positioned shoots.
