DESSERT PEAR - Pear Doyenne du Comice also known as Comice Pear is a lovely dessert pear that is widely regarded as one of the most flavoursome dessert varieties of pear available. It has a very juicy, buttery flavour and a wonderful melt-in-the-mouth texture and richness that other cultivars struggle to attain.
FRUIT TREE - Doyenne du Comice trees have attractive, oval-shaped leaves, which are a glossy dark green colour, that turn vibrant shades of orange and red in the Autumn. The tree produces fragrant white flowers in the Spring, which are followed by small, greenish yellow pears that ripen to a golden yellow colour, often with a tinge of red, in the late Summer or early Autumn.
GROWING CONDITIONS - This deciduous fruit tree hardy down to -20°C, is best grown in a sheltered spot in particular a south-facing wall or fence in well draining soil, that receives full sunlight. This adaptable variety can thrive in a range of climates and with its compact nature it is a great addition to any garden patio or border, orchard or allotment.
HARVESTING - The Doyenne du Comice pear tree will grow to a height of between 100 and 150 cm when mature. Fruit can be harvested in October and will store well into November. This variety is semi self-fertile and will require another pear tree nearby for pollination to produce fruit.
