"Raspberry plants (Rubus idaeus) are perennial shrubs that belong to the rose family (Rosaceae) and are renowned for their delicious, red, black, yellow, or purple berries. They are popular additions to home gardens due to their sweet and tangy fruit, as well as their relative ease of cultivation.
Raspberry plants typically have biennial canes, meaning they have a two-year growth cycle. In their first year, new canes, known as primocanes, emerge from the crown of the plant. These canes grow vegetatively, producing leaves and storing energy. In the second year, the primocanes become floricanes, developing lateral branches that bear flowers and fruit. After fruiting, the floricanes decline and are usually pruned to make way for new growth."
