This places it in close kinship with Rubinette, another apple born of the Cox x Golden Delicious union. Given that both Cox and Golden Delicious possess a subtle inclination toward russeting, it comes as no surprise that some of their progeny, including Herefordshire Russet, showcase this distinctive characteristic.
