This deciduous shrub features enormous, rounded heads of white florets which stand proud on the strong stems. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring it is mixed thoroughly and deeply. Chose a non-alkaline, fertile, moist soil. To protect the new delicate buds from frost damage, leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant after pruning.
