Hydrangea ‘Blue Danube’ has been specially selected for its deep blue flowers, with compact growth yet large, showy flower heads 20cm across. Hydrangea are one of the easiest shrubs to grow, and will perform extremely well in gardens up and down the UK. They will grow in sun or shade, and in most different types of soil. Grow in mixed borders, or in patio containers. Although, remember that an acidic soil will give blue flowers, whereas an alkaline soil will produce pink blooms! Grow hydrangea plants in any rich, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding in plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively, plant Thompson & Morgan Hydrangea ‘Blue Danube’ in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.Thompson & Morgan Hydrangea ‘Blue Danube’ prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten. Ideal For: Patio, Cottage Gardens, Cut Flower Gardens, Specimen Plants, Woodland Gardens Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Sun or Semi-Shade, Dappled Shade Height: Up to 100cm (39.4in) Spread: Up to 100cm (39.4in). Ease of Growing: Easy for All Ease of Aftercare: Easy for All
