Helleborus orientalis Sugar Plum

Helleborus orientalis 'Sugar Plum' is the result of new breeding. From February to April, strong stems rise each holding several buds which open to reveal their five petalled, ballet-slipper-pink flowers with darker veins. Much loved by bees and other pollinators for an early supply of nectar, a dark plum coloured centre surrounds a centre of yellow stamen. Boasting tidy clumps of the trademark leathery, dark green foliage which is evergreen and creates a stunning backdrop to the fabulous blooms.Commonly known as the Lenten Rose, and a member of the buttercup family, Helleborus orientalis are native to Greece and Turkey.Preferring to be grown in moist, well-draining soil in a shady position, Helleborus orientalis 'Sugar Plum' will reach a height and spread of 30-45cm. A fully hardy perennial to -20 C
