Cranberry 'Early Black' (Vaccinium macro. Early Black) is the earliest cropping variety, producing tart, vitamin C-packed fruits from late August. This hardy, evergreen shrub reaches up to 60cm (24in) in height and spread, making it an attractive addition to patios, kitchen gardens, ground covers, low maintenance gardens, and woodland gardens. The large, dark red-purple berries can be enjoyed fresh or made into cakes, juices, and jams. Cranberry 'Early Black' thrives in acidic soils or containers filled with ericaceous compost, and its ornamental qualities include bell-shaped spring flowers and bronzed autumn foliage, offering plenty of seasonal interest.
