This excellent, self-fertile, mid-season variety, produces rich flavoured fruit in abundance in August. Fully hardy, this compact shrub provides interest all year round with elegant white flowers in spring, and colourful foliage set against red stems in winter. Blueberry “Bluecrop” is perfect for a smaller garden or a large pot on the patio. Blueberries require a well-drained, Acidicic soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. In areas where Acidic soil does not naturally occur grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No.3. If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the Acidicity in the soil time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in the third year. As fruits begins to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework.
