Sambucus ‘Serenade’ is an upright shrub with a bushy habit and toothed, pinnate leaves that change their colour with the seasons. The foliage will start out with a red flush in the spring, turning vivid green in the summer and finally taking on a rich scarlet come autumn.
During the summer months, you can expect an abundance of panicles full of tiny, fragrant white flowers – these will be followed by round, glossy black fruit. While the plant is partially self-fertile, a pollinator elderberry close by will improve the yield.
Please note: Any part of the plant may cause digestive discomfort if ingested. The berries, when ripe and cooked, are suitable for consumption. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.
