This extra compact Forsythia ‘Mikador’ is the perfect low-maintenance option for patio containers or smaller gardens. Easy-going and happy in most conditions, it’s ideal for lighting up virtually any part of the garden, whether it’s tucked in among mixed borders, shrubberies or as a colourful feature in a front garden. Bursts into bloom during mid-spring with masses of bright yellow flowers, this fabulous shrub is a great way to kick-start the season and combines well with other flowering plants as well as architectural greenery. Naturally compact in size, it doesn’t outgrow its space, plus it’s happy to be pruned too to maintain a dense, neat shape. Grow Forsythia plants in moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Feed and water Forsythia plants regularly until fully established. Container grown plants will require annual dressing with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser and regular watering throughout the summer months. Border grown plants will require less attention. In late spring after flowering has finished, prune Forsythia by cutting back all flowered shoots to a healthy pair of leaves. On established Forsythia plants, cut back up to a fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to encourage healthy new growth and improve flowering.
