Edible | Inedible |
The rubber plant, named for the white latex that runs through its veins once used in rubber production, features thick, glossy green leaves that even have a rubber-like appearance. This plant grows upright, creating a striking centrepiece in any room.
Rubber plants are easy to grow and thrive in bright rooms with ample shade, making them ideal for north-facing spaces. Keep them away from cold drafts and radiators, as they need a stable temperature between 16°C (60°F) and 24°C (75°F). Avoid placing them in areas with sudden temperature drops, as this can lead to leaf loss.
Water regularly from spring to autumn, allowing the pot to drain after each watering. In winter, reduce watering and let the compost dry out more fully. Feed the plant during active growth between March and September.
This plant can reach up to 300cm (118in) in height and spread up to 150cm (59in).
Pet Safety: Some houseplants, including the rubber plant, can be toxic if ingested. Consult a veterinary professional if ingestion occurs, and bring a plant sample.
Size Variance: Plant size varies depending on the season, so provided images are for reference.
