Description:
Doyenne du Comice should be picked in October while still firm and stored until November before eating. With a little planning you can put fresh, ripe pears on the table on Christmas Day. The trees flourish well in well drained yet moist soil, and in full sunshine. Pears naturally shed a small quantity of the developing fruits in mid summer. After this has occurred thin out the remaining pears, leaving one pear per cluster. Add a high-nitrogen feed in spring.
