3 x Gunnera magellanica in 9cm Pot - Moisture Loving Herbaceous Perennials - UK Hardy
GUNNERA MAGELLANICA - Gunnera magellanica is a dwarf variety of Gunnera commonly known as The Devil’s Strawberry, due to the small berry-like fruit that it produces. This low growing mat forming herbaceous perennial native to South America has attractive glossy green crinkle-edged leaves that can grow up to 6 cm across. It forms attractive interwoven foliage creating a green version of a Greek mosaic. During the Summer months, tiny panicles of green flowers form, which develop into orange/red fruit.
POND PLANT - This plant will grow rapidly when planted in dappled shade and in heavy damp soil or in the mud at the edge of a pond. It is ideal for bog gardens, ground cover, rock and waterside gardens. It will grow to between 5 and 20 cm in height.
UK HARDY - This plant is popular, as it is the hardiest creeping mini Gunenera and can survive down to -10 degrees Celsius. In a cold winter there may be some damage to the leaves and stems but as this plant is a perennial it will make a full recovery. During the Autumn, trim back dead foliage to prolong growth.
